Mental health mission born from personal tragedy evolves to help GCC workplaces
A well-being mission that began after the founder lost his father to depression is now evolving to offer more workplace support as May marks Mental Health Awareness Month.
‘mentl’ is a unique platform dedicated to tackling the stigma of mental health inspiring conversations around well-being, with a strong focus on the world of work.
Already it’s launched an online knowledge hub in English and Arabic – mentl.space – engaged with incredible individuals via ‘the mentl space’ podcast, and hosted many talks, events, and conferences, including the launch of its inaugural edition of ‘the mentl awards’ in 2023 in Dubai, celebrating companies that prioritise their people.
Now, the inspiring organisation is unveiling a series of strategic partnerships throughout Mental Health Awareness Month with globally and regionally renowned experts and practitioners focused on moving the needle on well-being in the workplace.
As well as mentl’s trusted strategy and storytelling skills, it now features leading diversity experts, occupational, business, interpersonal relationship, and behavioural psychologists, team building gurus, adventurers, human performance specialists and even inspiring Emirati keynote speakers who have overcome their ownmental health challenges.
It comes amidst a backdrop of rising awareness of the costs of ignoring workplace well-being and mental health to businesses.
Founder of mentl, Scott Armstrong, said: “Based on data in Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace study, businesses are in the UAE are potentially losing $5 million per hour in lost productivity, we’ve calculated it to the millisecond.
“And yet the rewards on offer there for companies to reap, one study of 100 studies puts the ROI of well-being investment at 327 percent. Basically, it estimated that for every $10,000 invested companies can earn around $42,000 plus back.”
The first partnership of many to be announced is between mentl and the Christensen Consultancy, a pioneer in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), with the two joining forces to combat workplace mental health challenges across the UAE.
Their collaboration will focus on reducing workplace stigma and fostering supportive, inclusive work environments where employees and organisations can thrive.
This Includes:
- Interactive Workshops: A series of online sessions focusing on mental health awareness, stress management, resilience building, and strategies for dealing with burnout.
- Mental Health Toolkits: Tailored resources for employees, managers, and HR practitioners that provide practical strategies for recognising, managing, and supporting mental health at work. These include:
- Employee Toolkit: Empowers employees to manage their mental health, access resources, and cultivate a supportive community.
- Manager Toolkit: Equips managers with the skills to recognise mental health issues, support team members effectively, and maintain a mentally healthy team environment.
- HR Practitioner Toolkit: Offers comprehensive resources for HR professionals to develop and implement mental health strategies throughout the organisation.
